Davidson Garden – Gallery and Mosaic Sculptures
The sculpture garden and gallery of the home of Ruth and “Meyerkay” Davidson presents to the visitor unique mosaic works that are scattered between stunning natural foliage and a flowering garden.
The Davidson garden which is made up of approx 300 works of mosaics situated between oak, eastern strawberry, nut and pine trees is the living memory of 50 years of daily work and creativity. The sculptures, masks, pictures, images, animals and totem poles combine together to form a singular creation of mosaic art filled with colour, imagination and humour.
This special home that has been protected because of its uniqueness allows a glimpse
into the lifestyle on the kibbutz in the past and tells the story of Meyer Davidson, member of the Palmach (military arm of the Hagana), fighter, one of the founders of the Givatee brigade, a man dedicated to work, family and creation.
The garden is located in Kibbutz Eilon in the Western Galilee.

Sculpture Garden Kibbutz Eilon
The garden – a combination of sculptures and love
The garden and gallery surround the home of Ruth and Meyer Davidson two of the founder members of Kibbutz Eilon in the Western Galilee.
The garden is spread over 0.75 acres and it is a unique combination of Meyers sculptures and many variations of foliage, trees and plants which were lovingly cared for by Meyers wife Ruth.
The house is the first building on the Kibbutz that was built for permanent residence. It was built in 1954 on the northern edge of the kibbutz which at that time was mostly thick brush and trees (see more on home page). Off the porch the growth was made up of a thicket of Oak and Palestinian pistachio trees the remnants of a forgotten tree nursery and was heavily covered with rocks and boulders.
In the beginning the garden was only a cement patio, a fish pond and a stone wall to keep the ground level. Later with much hard work more stone walls, pavement and cleared land the garden reached is current size of 0.75 acres.
At the start the trees were low and there were many patches of sunlight shining through which allowed for an interesting combination of sculptures and cacti. Later as the trees grew and the garden became almost completely shaded other plants were introduced that thrive in that environment.
Meyer (Meyerkay) Davidson, an accomplished builder from his days in “Little Tel-Aviv” began building standing sculptures, urns and animals with the desire of finding a way to express his creative urge. (“It’s in the genes” he would say).
He would find bits of junk in the yard, join them together, cover them with builders net, fill with cement and combine with stones from the area. As he continued he developed, improved and went on an exciting adventure of sculpting working with mosaics made of natural stone, a variety of other materials, all the while using unique techniques and an eye opening imagination.
When Eilons mosaic factory was established Meyerkay became the leading artist in the workshop and under his quick hand were born thousands of works, pictures, tables, floors, ornamental objects and more, (outstanding examples – the floor of the presidents house and the Tunisian synagogue in Acco).
The outcome was always colourful, original and exciting thanks to Meyers artistic talent, professionalism in building, his wonderful ability of combining colour and stone and his open minded vision.
After work Meyer always continued to develop the garden. Later came an important period in which he made masks, geometrical pictures and ornaments which are kept in the modest home and fill every available space.
Over the years the garden and gallery have become a top attraction for visitors.
